Poggio Antico sits on one of the highest hills south of Montalcino, with clay-rich, calcareous soils and cooling altitude. It was founded in 1976 and is now in organic conversion. The 2023 Rosso is 100% Sangiovese, hand-picked in early October and fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures to keep the fruit fresh. It’s perfumed and juicy, with ripe cherry, strawberry and plum, plus cinnamon, violets and a touch of spice. The tannins are fine-grained, the acidity is crisp, and the finish is savory and easy-drinking. It’s a Tuscan red for pasta, pizza, roast chicken or grilled sausages.
93 Points
"The 2023 Rosso Di Montalcino was bottled in the beginning of November, and I tasted it just two weeks later. A youthful ruby color, it's fruity and inviting on the nose with aromas of candied berries, purple flowers, sweet herbs, and wet stones. Medium-bodied on the palate, it's juicy and inviting, with ripe tannins and a clean, well-detailed, polished feel. Drink it over the next 8-10 years."
