2023 Quinta de Sao Sebastiao - Lisboa Q.S.S. Rare Tinto (750ml)
Quinta de São Sebastião is a historic winery in Arruda dos Vinhos, a sub-region of Lisboa just south of Alenquer, where winemaking traditions reach back over a thousand years and the estate itself dates to 1755. Today it is owned and run by Antonio Parente, and the Q.S.S. Rare line was created with a dual purpose: to make vibrant, modern wines from this old terroir, and to support wildlife conservation, with a portion of each sale benefiting organizations working to protect endangered species.
Better known to its fans as "Kitty", this red is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, grown on gently sloped, clay-limestone vineyards at altitudes between 100 and 250 meters. The site benefits from strong sun exposure along with a cooling touch of Atlantic influence, since the ocean sits roughly 35 kilometers away. Winemaking follows a straightforward path, with cold maceration followed by fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, a method chosen to keep the wine fresh, fruity, and ready to enjoy soon after release.
The wine pours a deep ruby color, with aromas of dark berries, red currants, and a touch of chocolate. The palate is soft and elegant, carried by ripe fruit flavors and round, easygoing tannins. It pairs well with red meats, charcuterie, grilled dishes, or a hearty bowl of chili.
