2023 The Butcher's Daughter - Cotes du Rhone Kosher (750ml)
The Butcher's Daughter takes its name from La Fille de Boucher, a well-loved kosher restaurant in Paris' 17th arrondissement known for its grilled meats and hearty menu of steak tartare, foie gras, and cured meats. The restaurant's owners created this house wine line specifically to complement their kitchen, and the Cotes du Rhone bottling has become the most recognized of the group. Production is certified kosher under OU supervision, with Rav Rottenberg overseeing the winemaking.
The wine comes from the Cotes du Rhone appellation in the southern Rhone Valley, where warm, sun-drenched summers and stony, well-drained soils favor the classic southern Rhone trio of grapes. This bottling blends Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault, a combination chosen for its ability to deliver ripe fruit and gentle spice without heavy tannin, making the wine approachable soon after release rather than requiring years in the cellar.
On the nose, red fruit mingles with peppery spice and a light touch of vanilla from oak aging. The palate is soft and easy drinking, with rounded, smooth tannins leading to a robust, satisfying finish. True to its restaurant roots, it pairs naturally with grilled burgers, roasted chicken, or a spread of charcuterie.
