2023 Tua Rita - Toscana Rosso IGT Perlato del Bosco Super Tuscan (750ml)

Tua Rita was founded in 1984 when Virgilio Bisti and Rita Tua purchased a 22-hectare estate in the medieval town of Suvereto, on the Tuscan coast south of Bolgheri. It took the couple nearly a decade to release their first wine, and the winery's reputation grew quickly after the 2000 vintage of Redigaffi became the first Italian wine to earn a perfect score from Robert Parker. Now run under winemaker Luca D'Attoma, the estate keeps production small, at around 3,400 cases a year across its range.

Perlato del Bosco Rosso is made from 100% Sangiovese grown along this stretch of Maremma coastline, a site that gives the variety a different character than its counterparts from Montalcino or Chianti. Following fermentation, the wine spends about six months in conical oak vats before moving to barrique for a further ten months. The resulting wine captures the fresh, herbal quality of the surrounding Mediterranean scrub, or macchia, that the estate considers central to this bottling's identity.

The wine shows a deep ruby color and an intense, perfumed nose of cherries, violets, and lilac, layered with tobacco, cedar, and incense. On the palate it is medium-bodied with fine, polished tannins, bright red fruit, and a lively acidity that gives it both immediate charm and real aging potential.
