Turley Wine Cellars was founded in 1993 by Larry Turley, who built the winery's reputation on old vine Zinfandel and Petite Syrah from some of California's oldest and most endangered vineyard sites. Turley farms nearly all of its vineyards organically and relies on native yeasts throughout fermentation, an approach meant to preserve the authenticity of each site rather than impose a uniform house style. The winery helped popularize a richer, more concentrated take on Zinfandel when it launched in the mid 1990s and has stayed devoted to old vine California fruit ever since.

The Turley Estate Zinfandel is often called the family's backyard wine, since the fruit is grown right around the Turley home just north of St. Helena in Napa Valley. Farming here follows the same organic, low intervention philosophy used across the rest of the portfolio, with head trained, dry farmed vines yielding small berries with concentrated flavor. The wine reflects the warmth of its Napa Valley site while retaining the structure Zinfandel needs to age gracefully.

Expect a plush, hedonistic style with ripe dark fruit, baking spice, and a touch of dried herb layered through a full bodied, generous texture. The finish carries a warming note of alcohol balanced by soft, well integrated tannins. This wine pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, barbecued pork ribs, or a hearty mushroom stew.

94 Points
"Deeply structured and detailed, with rich blackberry and tart cherry flavors blending with briar patch, white pepper and savory anise notes that build tension toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2035. 1,984 cases made."
