Vinaltura is a family-run winery founded in 2014 by the Duer family in Querétaro's Valle de Colón. The family focuses on terroir-driven wines reflecting patience, passion, and tradition, farming vineyards sitting above 6,000 feet on loamy clay soils in a semi-arid climate, conditions that produce low yields of exceptionally high-quality fruit. Querétaro is actually one of Mexico's oldest wine regions, though modern winegrowing there only began in the mid-1970s after strict alcohol control laws were relaxed. It sits closer to the equator than almost any other wine region in the world, yet its high elevation delivers hot days and cool nights that give the vines real benefit.

The 2023 Gewürztraminer is 100% varietal, made with manual grape selection, soft pressing, and fermentation in stainless steel, with partial cold stabilization and filtration before bottling. The finished wine is clean and bright, straw yellow with greenish highlights. On the nose, expect good aromatic intensity with fruity notes of passion fruit, pineapple, lychee, soursop, and guava. The palate carries good acidity with medium freshness and a light warmth, finishing dry while preserving that same fruity character.

This is a versatile match for Mexican cuisine, particularly squash blossom quesadillas, steak tacos with caramelized onions, chicken in peanut sauce, and green tamales with cheese.
