2024 Alain Hudelot-Noellat - Romanee St. Vivant (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]

Alain Hudelot founded his domaine in the early 1960s on two plots his father had given him in Chambolle-Musigny. The turning point came in 1978, when Alain married Odile Noëllat, granddaughter of the celebrated Burgundian landowner Charles Noëllat, bringing five additional hectares of Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Vosne-Romanée into the family, including this Romanée-Saint-Vivant parcel and neighboring Richebourg. Alain's grandson, Charles van Canneyt, has run the estate since 2008, continuing the same pursuit of elegance over sheer power.

Romanée-Saint-Vivant is planted with the oldest vines anywhere in the domaine, dating back to 1920, and the tiny parcel sits directly beside land farmed by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. At the estate, this cuvée is treated as the grand finale of any tasting, a wine meant to close on the most refined note rather than the most powerful one, even given its exalted Grand Cru status.

The wine typically shows red cherry and crushed strawberry laced with spice and rose petal, framed by a pure mineral core and fine, velvety tannins that build to a long, persistent finish. It is a wine built for patience. Serve it with grilled ribeye, wild boar stew, or aged Vacherin.
