Bruno Colin has cultivated vines in Chassagne-Montrachet since establishing his own domaine in 2003, when the historic family estate founded by his father Michel Colin-Delèger was divided among his children. His La Maltroie bottling comes from a small parcel in the lieu-dit Ez Crets within this celebrated Premier Cru, planted with vines ranging from the 1950s to more recent additions, all grown on clay-limestone soil farmed organically with regular mechanical plowing to encourage healthy microbial life in the vineyard.

Where some of Bruno's crus lean toward pure refinement, La Maltroie tends to show a more earthy, streamlined character, carrying a flinty mineral edge that sets it apart within the domaine's range. In a 2024 vintage defined by tension and mineral drive rather than sheer richness, this cuvée reflects that house style well. Expect layered aromatics of gentle spice, candied citrus, and stone fruit, with hints of roasted almond and subtle florals building complexity in the glass. The palate is precise and dense, with fine textural detail and impressive persistence that speaks clearly to its terroir.

Serve chilled in a proper white Burgundy glass, and this wine pairs beautifully with roast chicken, grilled fish, or aged cheese.

90 Points
"Much like the Chenevottes, here the toasty nose is moderately reduced. By contrast, there is good volume to the round and seductively textured generously proportioned flavors that are rich to the point of opulence, all wrapped in an almost easy-going finale. This fleshy effort is a wine that could easily be enjoyed young or held for a few years first in the hopes that better depth develops."
