From Cakebread Cellars' 2024 Sauvignon Blanc North Coast, this bright white draws from estate ranches across the North Coast—from cooler Carneros sites that bring citrus character and flinty minerality to warmer Calistoga and Rutherford vineyards that add tropical depth. Founded in 1973 by Jack and Dolores Cakebread and still family-owned, the winery is noted for consistency and sustainable vineyard practices, with Sauvignon Blanc as one of the defining wines of the house.

Tasting notes

In the glass, pink grapefruit, Granny Smith apple, and kiwi mingle with honeydew and guava. Lime zest and lemongrass provide lift, carrying through a lingering citrus finish.

Vineyard & winemaking

The 2024 vintage draws on estate ranches spread across the North Coast, from cooler Carneros sites that bring citrus character and flinty minerality to warmer Calistoga and Rutherford vineyards that add tropical depth. Grapes are picked during the cool overnight hours to lock in freshness, then whole-cluster pressed and fermented mostly in stainless steel, with small portions aged in neutral oak and concrete to round out the texture.

Food pairings

Sensibly paired with fresh oysters, grilled chicken skewers, or a goat cheese crostini.

About Cakebread

Cakebread Cellars was founded in 1973 by Jack and Dolores Cakebread in Rutherford, at the heart of Napa Valley, and remains family-owned to this day. The estate farms roughly 460 acres across some of Napa's top appellations, building a reputation for consistency and sustainable vineyard practices. Sauvignon Blanc was the very first white variety the family planted in 1972, right beside the winery, and it continues to define the Cakebread name.
