2024 Champalou - Vouvray (750ml)
Catherine and Didier Champalou both grew up in vigneron families in the Loire, but their independent streak led them to strike out on their own, founding their domaine in Vouvray in 1983. In the decades since, the estate has become one of the appellation's most acclaimed names, prized for consistency and purity across a range of six Chenin Blanc bottlings farmed on sustainable, biodynamic principles.
This dry Vouvray comes from vines rooted in the region's characteristic tuffeau limestone and clay-flint soils, terroir long considered the spiritual home of Chenin Blanc. Made entirely from Chenin Blanc, the grapes are harvested early in the day to lock in freshness, then vinified with the kind of restraint that lets the site speak clearly rather than layering on winemaking artifice. The result is a wine built for both immediate enjoyment and further aging.
The 2024 offers pear, white peach, and citrus zest over a faint mineral thread, with a clean, energetic palate that carries real texture without excess weight. Bracing and pure, it finishes crisp and refreshing. It suits a wide range of dishes, from seafood and poultry to roast pork, and makes an excellent aperitif on its own.
