Domaine Lucien Crochet was formed when Lucien united the vineyard holdings of his father, André Crochet, and his father in law, Lucien Picard, one of the pioneers who first began bottling and selling Sancerre in Paris in the early 1950s. The estate is based in the village of Bué, widely regarded as one of Sancerre's finest growing sites despite receiving less attention than more famous neighbors like Chavignol. Today the domaine farms over 35 hectares across Bué and the surrounding communes, remaining one of the appellation's most consistently respected family run producers.

Growing and Production

The grapes for this cuvée come from vineyards across Bué, Vinon, and Crézancy, planted in clay limestone soils dating back to the Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian eras, giving the wine its characteristic minerality. Most of the vines face south, southwest, or southeast, maximizing sun exposure through the growing season. After harvest, fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, and the wine rests on its fine lees for an extended period before being racked late the following spring, a process designed to preserve freshness while building subtle texture.

Tasting Notes

The 2024 vintage is bright and aromatic, with elderflower, lime zest, and white peach giving way to crushed chalk and citrus on a long, mineral driven finish. The palate carries a slight weight alongside its vibrant acidity, making it a more food friendly, culinary style of Sancerre. It pairs beautifully with fresh oysters, grilled fish, or a simple goat cheese salad.
