Eric Ughetto is a former Paris firefighter and later mayor of Gigondas who took over his family’s vines in the early 1990s. He and his wife Sophie have made wine at La Roubine since 2000, farming organically from the start. Their Gigondas comes from about 5 hectares of roughly 50-year-old vines below the Dentelles de Montmirail. The vines grow on iron-rich red clay and cobbles, plus higher terraces of quartzite and limestone. It’s about 70% Grenache, with Mourvèdre and Syrah. The fruit goes in whole cluster, ferments on native yeasts in concrete, and macerates for around 45 days. It then ages in concrete and large old casks, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Look for wild cherry and dark berries layered with garrigue, licorice and a touch of forest floor. Tannins are fine-grained, and the finish is savory and elegant. A natural with lamb, game or a hearty cassoulet.

90 Points
"Rose petal, exotic flowers, black cherries, and Provençal spices show on the nose of the 2024 Gigondas Les Demoiselles, based on 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 5% each of Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and Counoise. It's medium-bodied and round on the palate, with a beautiful core of sweet fruit, integrated acidity, and ripe tannins. It's a quintessential 2024 that shows the fresher, more focused style of the vintage while keeping plenty of fruit. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years. Drink 2026-2034."
