2024 Envinate -Garnacha Tintorera Albahra (750ml)
SPAIN, CASTILLA-LA MANCHA, ALMANSA
Albahra — "small sea" in the local dialect, a nod to the ancient drained seabed the vineyard sits on — is where the Envínate range begins, and it's a serious overachiever for the price. Sourced from a single high-altitude vineyard (up to 800m) on limestone-heavy, calcareous soils in Almansa, this is primarily Garnacha Tintorera with a small addition of the increasingly rare Moravia Agria. Hand-harvested, partially whole-cluster fermented with native yeasts, and aged on fine lees in concrete for eight months. Bright ruby in color, with fresh, floral aromas of tart cherry and Mediterranean herbs, giving way to plum skin, blackberry, and blood orange on the palate alongside dried herbs, pepper, and a savory, earthy edge. Firm tannins, sharp acidity, and real structure — pure, honest, terroir-driven winemaking from four of Spain's most talked-about young producers.
