2024 Ettore Germano - Langhe Nebbiolo (750ml)
The Ettore Germano estate traces its roots back to 1856 in Serralunga d'Alba, one of the communes at the heart of the Barolo zone in Piedmont. Now guided by Sergio Germano, the winery farms vineyards rich in limestone, clay, and sand, terrain that gives Serralunga's wines their characteristic structure. Alongside its celebrated Barolo bottlings, the estate is also known for excellent Riesling and traditional method sparkling wine, a range that reflects an unusually varied approach to Piedmont's high-altitude sites.
This Langhe Nebbiolo comes entirely from the youngest vines, generally between three and ten years old, planted within the estate's own Barolo vineyards at around 370 to 400 meters above sea level on south and southeast facing slopes. Farming follows organic principles without formal certification. After a hand harvest, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, then fermented on the skins for three to four days before finishing without skins over an additional two to three weeks. The wine completes malolactic fermentation and rests through several rackings before bottling the following summer.
The result is a fresh, perfumed Nebbiolo with aromas of ripe cherry, violet, and a light dusting of spice. On the palate it is firm yet silky, with gentle tannins and a long, harmonious finish. It suits a relaxed table, pairing naturally with pasta in ragù, cured meats, or aged cheeses.
