2024 Evesham Wood - Pinot Noir Willamette Valley (750ml)
Evesham Wood was founded in 1986 in the Eola-Amity Hills and has been owned since 2011 by Tom and Erin Hewitt, who have carried the founding philosophy forward with real fidelity. Even though the Willamette Valley bottling is the winery's least expensive and largest production wine, the Hewitts treat it with the same care given to their single vineyard cuvees, drawing fruit from long-tenured sites the estate has worked with for decades.
The 2024 blend leans on Illahe Vineyard in Polk County and Mahonia Vineyard in the Jory hills south of Salem, alongside a cluster of respected Eola-Amity Hills sites including Prophet, Koosah, Jubilee, Cortell Rose, and Sojeau. All the fruit is certified organic. Grapes are fermented in small, 1.25 ton open top lots and punched down twice daily to build structure gently, then this vintage spent a full year in French oak, longer than in past years, giving the wine an especially cohesive, polished feel.
The 2024 shows a bright nose of cherry, red apple, fresh flowers, and a touch of loam, with a creamy, silky texture balanced by juicy acidity. Cranberry and orange peel flavors carry through a long, structured finish with gentle tannins. It drinks well now but has the material to develop nicely over the next several years. Pair it with roast chicken, grilled salmon, or mushroom risotto.
