2024 Frog's Leap - Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley (750ml)
Frog's Leap was founded in 1981 by John Williams and Larry Turley, who made the unconventional choice to release Sauvignon Blanc as their debut wine rather than the Cabernet Sauvignon that Napa Valley is best known for. Williams has spent more than four decades committed to organic, dry farmed viticulture, growing nearly all of the estate's own fruit and building the winery's reputation on restraint rather than overt richness. That philosophy of letting the vineyard lead has remained the throughline of the Frog's Leap style ever since.
This wine comes primarily from Rutherford estate blocks planted on gravelly loam soils, some dating back to 1942, along with fruit from a longtime partner grower in the same appellation. The 2024 harvest began on schedule in mid August under steady morning fog, conditions that preserved freshness and kept natural acidity high. Fermentation takes place in a blend of stainless steel and concrete egg, and the wine avoids malolactic fermentation entirely, then rests six months on its lees before bottling to build texture without leaning on oak.
The nose offers white peach, mint, and slate alongside tomato leaf and sage, with light tropical accents lifting a vibrant, citrus driven finish. Bright lemon and lime flavors carry real energy on the palate, backed by a distinct minerality. This wine works beautifully with oysters, grilled fish, or a simple herb driven salad.
