Jackson Holstein is a second-generation Dundee Hills grower. His father, Allen, was one of the area’s pioneer winegrowers in the late 1970s. Jackson grew up on the family vineyard, and his wife and partner, Ayla, grew up on the parcel next door. Today they run the two properties together as Granville Wine Co. A small year-round team tends the vines every day. Instead of hedging the vines, they braid and bend the shoots down by hand, a labor-intensive method that keeps the plants in balance.

The Holstein Estate is Granville’s home vineyard, on the easternmost ridge of the Dundee Hills at 615 to 740 feet. Its slopes face all four directions, and the fractured basalt soils change in depth and composition across the hillside. The site was first planted in 1972, which makes it one of the Willamette Valley’s oldest vineyards. The family began replanting it gradually in the early 1990s with old-world Pinot Noir clones. The vines are farmed organically and without irrigation, so the roots grow deep. Around 20% whole clusters go into the fermentation.

The 2024 is dark cherry and ripe plum with hints of cola spice, along with an energetic, resinous intensity. It’s broad and generous but still structured and savory. Try it with duck, game birds or wild mushrooms.
