2024 Henri Boillot - Meursault (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
The Boillot family's wine business traces back to the early 1900s, when Henri's grandfather, also named Henri, became the first in the family to work its vines; his father, Jean, later expanded the estate considerably. Henri himself joined in 1975 and became winemaker, and in 1995 he founded a separate négociant arm, Maison Henri Boillot, to source additional grapes from trusted growers across the Côte d'Or. Ten years later he bought out his siblings' shares and consolidated the family estate under his own name, a common necessity in Burgundy given how many Boillots make wine: his brother, Jean-Marc, runs his own domaine in Pommard, his sister married into Domaine Sauzet, and cousins farm separate estates in Gevrey-Chambertin. Henri's son, Guillaume, joined in 2008 and took over cultivation and red winemaking in 2012, while Henri continues to focus on the whites.
This village Meursault comes entirely from domaine-owned parcels on the coteau, including Les Petits Charrons, Chevalières, Casse Têtes, Luraule, and Les Pelles, totaling about 1.5 hectares high on the slope. The wine ferments and ages in barrel with a modest portion of new oak, generally around a fifth to a quarter, and undergoes full malolactic fermentation before roughly eighteen months of aging.
The wine shows a mid lemon yellow color, with aromas of lemon confit, white flowers, marzipan, spice, and crushed rocks. The palate is rich yet tense, with good acidity and a buttery intensity balanced by a steely finish. It pairs well with roast chicken, creamy pasta, or shellfish.
