2024 Henri Boillot - Meursault Genevrieres (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
The Boillot family began making wine in Volnay in the early 1900s, when Henri Boillot's grandfather, also named Henri, first worked the vines that belonged to the family. His son, Jean, expanded the domaine considerably, and the current Henri joined in 1975 to help his father before eventually taking charge himself, buying out his brother and sister to keep the estate whole and renaming it Domaine Henri Boillot in 2005, distinct from his brother Jean-Marc's own domaine in Pommard. Around 2000 Henri built a new winery in Meursault and relocated the estate there, and his son, Guillaume, now the domaine's chef de culture, has overseen red winemaking since 2012 while Henri continues to make the whites, which he describes as wanting "straight, taut, precise, pure and elegant."
Genevrières is one of Meursault's larger and better-regarded premier cru vineyards, sitting just north of Les Perrières and south of Les Poruzots on clay and limestone soils. The estate follows a sustainable, low-intervention approach dating back to the 1990s, hand harvesting and sorting the grapes before gentle pneumatic pressing without destemming. The must settles cold before fermenting in barrel with a portion of new oak, followed by full malolactic conversion and around twelve to eighteen months of aging on the lees with regular stirring.
The wine shows aromas of green apple, citrus oil, spring blossom, and hazelnut. The palate is medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, with ripe yet vibrant acidity leading to a stony, precise finish. It pairs beautifully with lobster, roast chicken in cream sauce, or aged Comté.
