The 2024 Liquid Farm Pinot Noir Radian Vineyard is a single-vineyard expression from one of the most compelling sites in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, crafted by a winery that has become a standard-bearer for old-world-inspired, terroir-driven winemaking in Santa Barbara County. Liquid Farm was founded in 2009 by Nikki and Jeff Nelson, who set out to make wines that honor their love for naturally high-acidity, minimally manipulated old-world-style wines, drawing on the cool-climate, ancient-soil vineyards of the Sta. Rita Hills. Winemaker James Sparks executes that vision with a philosophy of minimal intervention in the winery, allowing a knowing hand in the vineyard to do the heavy lifting.

Radian Vineyard sits in the most southwesterly corner of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Its soils are particularly rich in diatomaceous earth, a form of pure silica, which lends piercing acidity and striking minerality to the resulting wines. Yields are super low, but the fruit is highly intense and nervy. The vineyard is the westernmost site along Santa Rosa Road, where cold nights and a constant marine influence create ideal conditions for expressive and balanced Pinot Noir. The wine is aged 15 months in French oak with 15% new barrels and 15% whole-cluster inclusion, adding spice, structure, and textural complexity. The result is a Pinot Noir of serious depth: dark berries, scorched earth, and graphite on the nose, with a concentrated, layered palate, vivid minerality, and a finish with genuine length and tension. Best enjoyed now through 2036 alongside roasted lamb, duck breast with cherry reduction, or earthy mushroom dishes.
