2024 Lunae - Colli di Luni DOC Vermentino Black Label (750ml)
Lunae takes its name from the ancient "Portus Lunae," once a significant port city of the Roman Empire, and the winery was founded in 1966 by Paolo Bosoni, who built it into what is now Liguria's largest producer. His children Debora and Diego now carry the estate forward, farming a total of 85 hectares split between family-owned vineyards in the hills of Luni and Castelnuovo Magra and grapes sourced from around 150 local growers who help preserve the region's small-scale winegrowing traditions.
Black Label is Lunae's flagship Vermentino, made from a careful selection of grapes drawn mostly from older hillside vines averaging thirty-five years of age. The fruit undergoes cold cryomaceration for about twelve hours before pressing, adding a layer of complexity beyond what standard Vermentino vinification typically achieves. The wine ferments and matures entirely in steel, with no oak involved, letting the variety's natural character come through unfiltered by wood.
The 2024 offers aromas of spring flowers, acacia blossom, honey, and golden apple, framed by crisp acidity and a distinctly salty edge on the finish. It's an ideal companion for seafood, roast poultry, or a simple plate of grilled branzino.
