2024 Maison Meo-Camuzet - Volnay (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs is the négociant label created by Jean-Nicolas Méo and his sisters, Isabelle and Angeline, to expand beyond the family's own celebrated vineyards in Vosne-Romanée. Jean-Nicolas took over the historic domaine in 1985 with guidance from the legendary Henri Jayer, and that same philosophy of balancing structure with finesse carries through to the négociant wines, even though the fruit for these bottlings comes from purchased vineyards rather than the family's own holdings.
For this village-level Volnay, grapes are carefully sorted and largely destemmed before a short three-to-five day cold soak, allowing fermentation to begin naturally. Vinification then continues for about three weeks with some temperature control, with punch-downs reserved for the final stages to keep the wine's texture gentle rather than extracted. Depending on the vintage, village-level wines like this one may see little to no new oak, letting the vineyard's character speak clearly.
Volnay is known among Burgundy's Côte de Beaune villages for producing some of the region's most delicate, aromatic Pinot Noir, and this bottling follows that tradition, with vibrant red and purple berry fruit, a touch of savory spice, and a fleshy, almost juicy texture balanced by fresh acidity. It's a lovely match for roast chicken, duck, or a simple mushroom tart.
