The Nigl family has been growing grapes in the Kremstal for generations, working from their home base in Senftenberg along the Kirchenberg, one of the valley's most storied vineyard sites. The estate has built its reputation on marrying long standing Austrian winemaking tradition with modern technical know how, producing wines that range from everyday drinking bottlings to some of the region's most sought after single vineyard GrĂ¼ner Veltliners and Rieslings.

Freiheit, meaning freedom, takes its name from the vineyard it comes from, thought to be among the earliest parcels in the valley held in private hands rather than by the church or a feudal estate. The wine is made entirely from GrĂ¼ner Veltliner grown on this historic site, with both fermentation and aging carried out in stainless steel to keep the focus on pure fruit character rather than any oak influence. It is typically bottled at a moderate twelve and a half percent alcohol.

The glass shows bright citrus and ripe pear alongside a faint creamy note, backed by the variety's signature peppery spice and a mineral edge that carries through a clean, zesty finish. Try it alongside pan seared white fish, spring greens, or a mild, soft cheese.
