Pierre-Vincent Girardin represents the thirteenth generation of his family to make wine in Burgundy, having grown up in the cellars of his father, Vincent Girardin, before striking out on his own. When his father sold the family domaine in 2011, he held back four and a half hectares of prime vineyard for his son, and Pierre-Vincent released his first vintage in 2017 at just nineteen years old. Long-standing family relationships with top growers now give him access to an unusually broad portfolio, from village sites to rare parcels of Corton-Charlemagne and Montrachet itself.

This village-level Chassagne-Montrachet draws on Chardonnay grown on the appellation's characteristic clay-limestone soil, farmed with attention to low yields for concentration. Girardin favors custom-made barrels somewhat larger than the Burgundy standard, believing they let the wine develop more slowly and with greater purity. Fermentation relies on native yeasts, followed by roughly a year in barrel with a meaningful portion of new oak, before further time resting in tank.

The wine shows white flowers, green apple, and citrus, with a flinty, mineral edge that carries through a silky, full-bodied palate to a long finish touched with toasted hazelnut. It pairs well with shellfish, roasted white fish, or a soft-ripened cheese.
