2024 Pira, Enrico (Chiara Boschis) - Barbera d'Alba (750ml)
The Boschis family's ties to Piedmont winemaking stretch back to 1761, when their ancestors founded the historic Giacomo Borgogno estate in Barolo. When the last male heir of the neighboring Pira winery died without children in 1980, his sisters turned to the Boschis family for help, and Chiara convinced her parents to mortgage their savings to buy the property the following year. She took full control in 1990, becoming the first woman to run her own winery in the Langhe, and was later joined in 2010 by her brother Giorgio, his wife Daniella, and their three daughters. Today the family farms eleven organically certified hectares across Barolo, Monforte d'Alba, and Serralunga d'Alba.
This Barbera d'Alba draws on two parcels in Monforte, Mosconi and Ravera di Monforte, along with a small plot in Gabutti near Serralunga, at an average elevation of around 350 meters. The grapes ferment with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel before the wine spends roughly sixteen months aging in used barriques, a gentle approach that lets Barbera's natural fruit and bright acidity lead rather than new oak.
The wine pours an intense ruby with violet reflections, showing red fruit and a hint of spice on the nose. The palate is full and round, carried by the variety's signature bright acidity to a harmonious finish. It pairs naturally with braised meats, tomato-based pasta, or aged hard cheeses.
