Quinta do Crasto ranks among the oldest winemaking estates in the Douro, with documented references to the property dating back to 1615, more than a century before the Douro became the world's first officially demarcated wine region in 1756. Its name derives from the Latin castrum, meaning Roman fort, a nod to the ancient fortifications once found on the site. Since 1981 the estate has been owned and run by the Roquette family, who modernized the vineyards and cellars while preserving Crasto's long tradition of fine Port and table wine production along the river's right bank.

The Douro Tinto is a blend built primarily from Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Barroca, the classic quartet of the region, sourced from vineyards across the estate's holdings. Most of the wine rests in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity, with a smaller portion aging in French oak barrels for added spice and structure. The 2024 growing season was marked by a long, gradual harvest running from late August into October, yielding reds with notable depth of color and ripe, silky tannins.

Deep ruby in the glass, the wine offers aromas of ripe red and black berries layered with floral, herbal, and sweet spice notes. The palate is juicy and fluid, with fine-grained tannins, refreshing acidity, and earthy, balsamic touches lingering through a medium finish. It pairs well with grilled sardines, roasted lamb, or a hard sheep's milk cheese.
