2024 Ridge - Alexander Valley Geyserville Red (750ml)
Geyserville is one of Ridge Vineyards' most storied bottlings, made as a single-site field blend every year since 1966. The grapes come from three adjoining vineyards on a defined stretch of gravelly soil roughly a mile and a quarter long and half a mile wide. Ridge farms some of its oldest vines here, including a block dating back more than 130 years, and Geyserville has long stood as a traditional field blend of Zinfandel alongside its complementary varieties, Carignane, Petite Sirah, and Mataro.
The 2024 vintage is 71% Zinfandel, 19% Carignane, 8% Petite Sirah, and 2% Alicante Bouschet, finishing at 14.6% alcohol. The wine underwent natural primary and secondary fermentation with no inoculation, followed by twelve months of aging in air-dried American oak barrels, a mix of new and seasoned wood.
The result is deep ruby-purple in color, with dried spice aromas introducing a full-bodied, lush wine layered with bold blackberry fruit, fine acidity, and beautifully integrated oak. Expect rich blue fruit, incense, crushed rocks, and deeply pitched spice, all carried with real gravitas from open to close, in what many critics are calling one of the finest Geyserville vintages in years. Raspberry, blackberry, and cassis mingle with balsam and cedar from the oak, with milk chocolate lingering on the finish.
Though approachable now, this is a wine built to age, with the structure to evolve gracefully over the next decade or more. Pair with grilled meats, braised short ribs, or bold, spiced dishes.
