The most elegant and finessed of Billaud's Grand Cru lineup — and one of the most beautifully poised expressions of Les Préuses in all of Chablis. Wine-Searcher's aggregate of critics awards the 2024 a stellar 94 Points, continuing an extraordinary run of consistent acclaim for this cuvée across every vintage. Situated on a gently sloping section of the Grand Cru hillside between Vaudésir and Bougros, Les Préuses is revered for wines that unite refinement with quiet power — resting on classic Kimmeridgian limestone soils packed with marine fossils that give the wine its unmistakable chalky minerality and saline lift. Although Préuses sits atop Bougros, it is a cooler site that tends to produce wines of greater finesse — and sourced here from vines planted in 1949, the depth and character of the fruit is extraordinary. Neither as delicate as Blanchots nor as powerful as Les Clos, it occupies a harmonious middle ground — aromatically showing lemon peel, white peach, and green apple layered over crushed shell and wet stone, with a poised and finely textured palate of incisive acidity and a long, searingly chalky finish. The 2024 vintage produced heartbreakingly small quantities — Les Préuses recorded some of the lowest yields in all of Chablis at just 10 hectoliters per hectare — making this among the rarest bottles of the entire vintage. An essential and irreplaceable Grand Cru Chablis

92-94 Points
"From some 60-year-old vines, Samuel Billaud’s 2024 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses is one of the more ethereal, oceanic wines in the range, opening with notes of white flowers, lemon oil and Granny Smith apple mingling with marine nuances and warm stones. On the palate, it’s medium- to full-bodied, bright and incisive, with ample chalky structuring extract, culminating in a long, sapid finish."
