2024 Seghesio - Zinfandel Sonoma (750ml)
Seghesio Family Vineyards was founded in 1895 by Italian immigrant Edoardo Seghesio, and five generations later it stands as one of California's most respected Zinfandel producers. For more than 125 years the family has tended vines of Zinfandel and Italian heritage varieties, some dating back to the winery's earliest plantings.
This bottling represents Seghesio's ideal expression of Sonoma County Zinfandel in any given vintage, crafted from an average selection of more than 150 individual lots harvested from vineyards across the county, including sites in Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and Russian River Valley. Each lot is fermented separately under the eye of winemaker Ted Seghesio before the best are blended together, with a small amount of Petite Sirah added to honor century-old family tradition and lend extra color and structure.
Expect a complex fusion of blackberry, black currant, plum, cherry, and baking spice on the nose, with a lively, fruit-forward palate that can range from brambly raspberry and blackberry to spicy black pepper and a hint of smoke. The wine carries a fuller-bodied, plush mouthfeel with satisfying weight, structure typically found in pricier bottlings.
This is a versatile, food-friendly Zinfandel suited to grilled meats, hearty stews, pizza, or spicy fare, and a wine that has earned recognition for delivering serious quality at an accessible price.
