2024 Sottimano - Langhe Nebbiolo (750ml)
Andrea Sottimano and his father Rino farm thirteen carefully tended hectares across the Cottá, Currá, Fausoni, Pajoré, and Basarin crus in the townships of Treiso and Neive. Their approach favors minimal intervention throughout, relying on indigenous yeasts, skipping fining and filtration, and avoiding insecticides in favor of organic fertilizers used sparingly. Natural cover crops grow between the rows and are mowed only a few times a year, an approach that reflects the family's broader commitment to letting each individual site speak clearly through the finished wine.
This Langhe Nebbiolo comes entirely from the lower section of the Basarin cru, planted with vines around twenty five years old on notably sandy soil. Though the fruit could technically be classified as Barbaresco, Andrea reserves that designation for his oldest vines, choosing instead to bottle this younger material as a more approachable Langhe Nebbiolo. After careful selection, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation followed by extended skin maceration and natural malolactic fermentation, a traditional process that lets the sandier terroir shine through with a lighter, fresher expression of the variety.
The wine opens with sweet floral aromatics and red fruit at its core, joined by hints of rose petal. On the palate, mint and licorice notes emerge, growing more persistent through a long, vibrant finish, all carried by crisp acidity and fine tannins. Its bright, food friendly character pairs beautifully with herb crusted lamb, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, or aged Parmigiano Reggiano.
