Vinaltura is a family winery in Querétaro's Valle de Colón, founded by the Duer family with the ambition of proving Mexico could produce serious, terroir-driven wine at high altitude. The estate sits above 6,000 feet, where loamy clay topsoil gives way to calcareous tepetate and a stony basaltic base, and a wide day-to-night temperature swing helps preserve acidity in what is otherwise a harsh, semi-arid climate the family half-jokingly calls "extreme viticulture." Winemaking here has drawn on the expertise of Hugo D'Acosta, one of the pioneers of Mexico's modern wine movement, who trained in Montpellier and Turin before helping shape some of the country's most respected labels.

Abrepuertas Galáctico belongs to Vinos y Espíritus del Rancho, a playful, small-batch line built on Vinaltura's existing vineyards and cellar, largely run by the next generation of the Duer family as a looser, more experimental counterpart to the estate's main range. Grapes are hand harvested from the property's own red varieties and vinified in small lots with minimal intervention, letting the fruit's natural freshness and character come through with a light touch.

The wine shows a bright pink hue with lively red fruit and floral aromatics, framed by the crisp acidity that Querétaro's cool nights help preserve. It's a refreshing, easy-drinking rosé, well suited to grilled fish, ceviche, or simply sipping on a warm afternoon.
