Les Carmes Haut-Brion, the taste of place

Born in 1584 from a gift made by Jean de Pontac, Lord of Haut-Brion, to the Carmelite Order, Les Carmes Haut-Brion carries nearly five centuries of history. Acquired in 2010 by Patrice Pichet, this singular estate draws its identity from a 7-hectare walled vineyard in the heart of Bordeaux, where Cabernet Franc takes centre stage alongside a remarkable park. At the centre of this urban haven, the Philippe Starck-designed winery appears to rise from the water, a striking contemporary expression of the spirit of the place.

Since 2012, Guillaume Pouthier has pursued a vision rooted in precision, radiance and energy. Shaped by a microclimate that encourages early ripening, each vintage is approached with subtlety, through gentle infusion and the immersion of whole bunches. The result is a wine of vibrant freshness, saline tension and unmistakable character, where fruit, texture and finesse reveal the very essence of Les Carmes.

The 2025 vintage

"Blackberries, ripe for picking.
Flowers that carry the taste of the earth.
Saline aromas and the blackness of cuttlefish ink.
Smoky nuances,
a mingling of cardamom and sandalwood.
A roundness that takes shape, turns,
glows,
persists.
A velvety texture.
Nostalgic echoes of rosewater."

99-100 Points
"The precision is so seductive and intellectual, with aromas of fresh flowers, iron, graphite, cedar, blood oranges and black fruit. It's medium-bodied with a compact palate of intense tannins that melt into the wine. Rather weightless in nature. It kicks in at the end with incredible intensity and focus. 13% alcohol. 65% whole cluster. 54% cabernet franc, 29% cabernet sauvignon and 17% merlot, mostly co-fermented. "
