Pichon Baron, ode to the Cabernet-Sauvignon

In 1689, Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan established Enclos Rauzan, which became the Pichon Longueville estate in 1694. In 1851, Baron Raoul de Pichon Longueville founded Pichon Baron, featuring its iconic château. Recognized as a Second Growth Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the estate was acquired by Axa Millésimes in 1987, initiating extensive renovations. Under the leadership of Christian Seely for over 20 years, a modern tasting area was inaugurated in 2023.

The 73 hectares of the Pichon Baron vineyard are spread over very high quality gravelly soil. This unique soil, low in nutrients and without excess water, is perfectly suited for Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2025 vintage :

The 2025 vintage stands out for its remarkable earliness and contrasting weather conditions. After a dry, mild winter, followed by a wet spring that required careful vigilance, the hot, dry summer encouraged rapid ripening. Some rainfall in late July and early September allowed the vines to recover and supported grape maturity. The harvest, completed over an intense 16-day period, was among the earliest of the last 30 years and delivered a very high-quality crop, healthy and concentrated

96-98 Points
"A brilliant achievement, the 2025 Pichon-Longueville Baron, a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot (70% new oak), features a notably high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon for a warm vintage, exceeding that of 2020 and 2022. It reveals a refined bouquet of dark wild berries, cassis, spice, lead pencil and licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and concentrated, it’s built around a fleshy, finely structured core of fruit with a distinctly Cabernet-driven profile, combining freshness and tension with notable depth. It should age gracefully over the next two to three decades."
