2025 Clos St. Magdeleine - Cassis Blanc (750ml)
Clos Sainte Magdeleine was established in 1922 on a dramatic private cape where the vineyards meet the limestone cliffs of Cap Canaille, framed by the estate's striking Art Deco mansion overlooking the Mediterranean. The Sack family, now in its fourth generation and known today as Sack-Zafiropulos, has tended these vines ever since, with Jonathan Sack, working alongside his father, François, continuing the family's stewardship since 2008. The estate completed its conversion to organic farming in 2012 and remains one of only a dozen or so producers permitted to make wine under the tiny AOC Cassis appellation, which covers just 215 hectares along this stretch of Provençal coast.
This Cassis Blanc blends Marsanne, Ugni Blanc, Clairette, and a touch of Bourboulenc, grown on Cretaceous-era sandstone and sandy marl across the estate's terraced, cliffside parcels. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented primarily in stainless steel, with a portion aged in small demi-muids on fine lees, and the wine is bottled without filtration to preserve its full character.
The wine shows a mineral, saline character layered with wild fennel, Mediterranean scrubland herbs, and a hint of white peach. The palate is crunchy and fresh, with bright acidity balanced by real weight and texture. It's a natural match for fresh fish, shellfish, or Roquefort and other goat cheeses.
