2025 Cousino Macul - Chardonnay Maipo Valley Antiguas Reservas (750ml)
Cousiño Macul was founded in 1856 by Matías Cousiño near Santiago and remains the only 19th century Chilean winery still owned by its founding family. His son Luis traveled to France in 1860 and returned with French cuttings that included Chardonnay from Burgundy. When Santiago grew to surround the original Macul estate, the family added vineyards in Buin in 1996, and both properties lie in the Alto Maipo.
This 100 percent Chardonnay is grown on estate vineyards at the foot of the Andes in the Maipo Valley, where the winery’s vines are ungrafted and propagated through massal selection. Antiguas Reservas is the winery’s barrel-influenced style, partially fermented and aged in oak, set apart from its fresh, unoaked Chardonnay. It finishes dry at 13.5 percent alcohol.
Pale straw in the glass, the wine shows aromas of golden apple, pear, honeysuckle, and lemon, along with butter and a hint of vanilla and ginger. The palate is generous, with a creamy texture, balanced oak, and lively acidity that keeps the finish fresh. Hints of hazelnut and grapefruit add further layers.
