Dog Point Vineyard was founded by Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and James and Wendy Healy, two couples who first worked together at Cloudy Bay. Their first vintage was 2002, made from vineyards the Sutherlands began planting in the late 1970s where the Brancott and Omaka valleys meet. The estate is among New Zealand’s largest certified organic vineyards. The 2025 is the last vintage made by Healy, who died in early 2026.

The 2025 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from eight estate-owned Wairau Valley vineyards, farmed organically for over 15 years, with vines averaging 28 years old. A settled spring and warm, dry summer gave even flowering and healthy fruit. Hand-picked grapes are whole bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel, for the first time entirely with wild yeast, then matured on lees for five months before bottling at 12.5% alcohol.

Pale straw with green edges, the nose bursts with passionfruit, gooseberry and kiwi, joined by grapefruit, fresh herbs and a flinty mineral edge. The palate is zesty and textured, more savory and salty than overtly fruity, with lime and quiet herbal notes beneath. Crisp acidity drives a long, dry, refreshing finish.
