2025 Feudo Montoni - Sicilia Bianco DOC Grillo Timpa (750ml)
Feudo Montoni traces its winemaking roots to 1469, when its fortified baglio was built in Cammarata, in the mountainous interior of central Sicily. The estate passed to the Sireci family in the late nineteenth century, and today Fabio Sireci, the third generation to run Montoni, oversees the property alongside his wife and business partner, Melissa Muller. Rather than chasing the richer, sun-baked style often associated with southern Italian wine, the couple farms for elegance and freshness, drawing on old vines and a high-altitude site to shape wines with a distinct sense of place.
The Timpa vineyard takes its name from the Sicilian word for a steep slope, and the site lives up to it, climbing a hillside with a gradient that exceeds 70 percent for excellent sun exposure and natural drainage. Surrounding fields of durum wheat leave the vines somewhat isolated from the rest of the landscape, helping preserve old genetic material undisturbed. The vineyard is farmed organically and planted entirely to Grillo, hand-harvested and vinified with a light touch to protect the grape's natural acidity and aromatic lift.
In the glass this wine shows straw yellow with green highlights. The nose offers white peach and medlar, layered with floral notes of broom, jasmine, and almond blossom. The palate stays fresh and persistent, with pronounced acidity balanced neatly against the alcohol, closing on a soft, smooth finish. Serve chilled alongside grilled swordfish, briny shellfish, or a plate of fresh sheep's milk cheese.
