2025 Pira, Enrico (Chiara Boschis) - Dolcetto d'Alba (750ml)
Chiara Boschis has spent much of her career convincing her neighbors that organic farming belongs in Barolo. After converting her own vineyards starting in 2010, she launched the "Cannubi Biologico" project, encouraging fellow growers in that famous cru to give up chemical treatments, an effort that has since brought roughly 80 percent of the vineyard into organic practice. She took over what had been a purely traditional family winery in 1990, having convinced her parents nearly a decade earlier to buy the small E. Pira estate after its last heir passed away without children. Her brother, Giorgio, along with his wife and three daughters, joined the project in 2010, and the family now farms eleven hectares across Barolo, Monforte d'Alba, and Serralunga d'Alba.
The estate's Dolcetto comes from three parcels in Monforte d'Alba, Ravera di Monforte, Le Coste di Monforte, and old vines in Mosconi, grown on clay-lime marl mixed with siliceous sandstone at around 400 meters. The grapes ferment and age in stainless steel for just a few months, a straightforward approach meant to preserve the variety's natural freshness rather than add weight or oak character.
The wine pours an intense ruby red with violet reflections, carrying persistent floral and fruity aromas of violet, marasca cherry, wild strawberry, and small red fruit. Soft tannins and a balanced, elegant structure make it Chiara's self-described everyday wine. It's lovely served lightly chilled alongside charcuterie, pizza, or a simple weeknight pasta.
