One of the rarest Grüners in Austria. Stockkultur is the old way of growing: each vine trained to its own wooden stake, packed in at around 15,000 vines per hectare, on uneven terraces where wires would never work. This tiny parcel sits at the top of Achleiten, one of Austria’s greatest vineyards, and its vines were planted in the late 1930s, making them among the oldest in the Wachau. Dr. Toni Bodenstein, the geologist and biodiversity champion who leads Prager, tends them by hand as a true labor of love.

Achleiten is known for its signature flint, smoke and mineral character, and the Stockkultur adds serious depth: dried apricot, lemon zest and white pepper over a firm, racy backbone, with the savory complexity only old vines on poor soils can give. Built to age, but already thrilling. Pair with roast chicken and herbs, veal or aged cheeses.

"The 2025 Grüner Veltliner Ried Achleiten Stockkultur Smaragd
references single-stake training in its name. The vines were planted in
1937. A touch of flint and gorgeous herbal savor tremble with white
pepper and wonderful umami on the nose. The palate offers peppery
stone, purity, brightness, linearity and direction. It is so fused, so
together, a beautiful unit that strikes a perfect balance. Freshness,
zestiness and spice trail in the wake of its absolute being. This is a
marvel of purity that will take time.
