2025 Vietti - Roero Arneis DOCG (750ml)
Vietti traces its roots to 19th-century Piedmont, though it began bottling wine under its own name only in the early 20th century. Alfredo Currado, who joined the family through marriage, is often called the father of Arneis for the work he did in the 1960s reviving this nearly forgotten grape variety, and Vietti became the first winery to bottle it as a standalone wine in 1967. Today the estate farms 35 hectares across some of Piedmont's finest sites and remains known worldwide for both its wines and its tradition of artist-designed labels.
This Arneis comes from vineyards in the municipality of Santo Stefano Roero, where limestone and clay soils shape the region's distinct character compared to nearby Barolo and Barbaresco. The vines average around 31 years of age and are hand-harvested in early September. After gentle pressing, the wine ferments slowly in sealed steel tanks at low temperature, a technique that reabsorbs a touch of natural carbon dioxide and helps preserve the grape's delicate fruit character. It skips malolactic fermentation entirely, aging on its lees in steel until bottling.
Pale straw yellow with green highlights, the wine shows fresh white flowers, pear, and peach alongside subtle almond and mineral notes. Dry and lively on the palate, it carries crisp acidity through to a finish marked by a pleasant bitter almond edge. Try it with grilled fish, seafood risotto, or a plate of vitello tonnato.
