Absolut Vodka traces its origins to Lars Olsson Smith, a Swedish entrepreneur born in 1836 who earned the nickname "The King of Vodka" after introducing continuous distillation to Sweden in 1879, a technique he called Absolut Rent Brännvin, or "absolutely pure vodka." The modern brand was revived in the 1970s by the Swedish state-owned spirits company Vin & Sprit, drawing directly on Smith's legacy and his hometown of Åhus, in the southern province of Skåne. Now part of Pernod Ricard following its 2008 acquisition, Absolut remains rooted entirely in that same small community.

Every bottle follows what the brand calls its "One Source" philosophy, using only hardy winter wheat grown on farms surrounding Åhus and water drawn from the company's own wells, filtered naturally through Swedish bedrock for thousands of years. Roughly 400 local farms supply the wheat, which is grown using crop rotation to keep the soil healthy and reduce reliance on fertilizers. The wheat spirit undergoes continuous distillation, a method pioneered by Smith that replaced the older pot-still approach and produces a notably pure, consistent spirit without additives. The finished vodka is bottled at 40% ABV.

The nose is creamy and grain-forward, with a gentle sweetness that carries through to the palate. On the tongue, Absolut is smooth and full-bodied, offering light grain notes alongside a subtle fruit-like quality that keeps the wheat character present without any harshness. The finish is clean and warm, closing with a soft, faintly sweet note and no bitterness.

It was something of a first when Absolut started collaborating with artists and thinkers. Our first collaboration was in 1985 with Andy Warhol. The success of the 'Absolut Warhol' commission kick-started something of a relay race, with the Absolut baton being passed between some 550 artists since. There are over 850 pieces of Absolut art on display at the ?Spritmuseum? in Stockholm ? you should come see it sometime.
