Amrut Distilleries was founded in 1948 in Bangalore, India, and helped pioneer the country's single malt category when it launched Amrut Single Malt internationally in 2004. The distillery draws on Himalayan-grown barley and sits roughly 3,000 feet above sea level, where warm, fluctuating temperatures speed up maturation dramatically compared to Scotland, with a significant share of the spirit lost to evaporation each year.

For this expression, Amrut imports Scottish barley peated to around 23 to 24 parts per million and distills it in small batches before aging the spirit in ex-bourbon and new charred oak casks for four to five years, a relatively short span that behaves more like a much older whisky given Bangalore's climate. It is bottled at cask strength, close to 62.8% ABV, without chill filtration or added color.

The nose combines sooty peat smoke with dried orchard fruit, brown sugar, and baking spice. On the palate, vanilla and dark fruit meet smoldering peat, black pepper, and a touch of char, with the high proof amplifying the intensity throughout. The finish is long, smoky, and slightly sweet, with lingering licorice and roasted grain.
