anCnoc 12 yr Single Malt Whiskey 750ml
anCnoc is produced at Knockdhu Distillery, founded in 1894 near Huntly in the far north of Scotland's whisky country. The distillery originally bottled its whisky under the Knockdhu name, but the closeness to the neighboring Knockando distillery caused enough confusion that the brand was renamed anCnoc, taken from the Gaelic term for "the hill" that overlooks the site. Knockdhu remains a small, traditionally run distillery, with production still built around a single pair of stills.
The 12 Year Old is matured largely in ex-bourbon casks, a choice that keeps the spirit's natural character in front rather than layering it with heavy sherry influence. Knockdhu's stills and slow, gentle distillation give the new make a light, delicate style from the outset, and that character carries through into the finished whisky after twelve years in oak, bottled at a comfortably approachable strength.
The nose leads with honey, vanilla, and orchard fruit, joined by a bright touch of lemon and a hint of fresh flowers. The palate is malty and gently sweet, carrying apple, pear, and citrus with a light dusting of spice. The finish is medium in length, closing on soft honey and a trace of ginger warmth.
