Ardbeg 10 yr Single Malt Whiskey 750ml
Ardbeg distillery sits on Islay's remote Kildalton Coast, where whisky has been made since 1815. Though ownership has changed hands many times over the centuries, including a period of closure in the 1980s, the distillery has always been defined by its uncompromising devotion to heavily peated spirit. Today it operates under Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, and the Ten Year Old, first launched in its current form in 2000, remains the flagship expression that introduces most drinkers to the Ardbeg style.
The whisky is distilled from barley peated to a notably high level, then matured for a decade exclusively in ex-bourbon American oak casks. Ardbeg bottles the Ten Year Old at 46% ABV and leaves it non-chill filtered, a choice that retains natural oils and contributes to its slightly waxy texture. This straightforward cask approach, without sherry or secondary finishing, allows the distillery's signature peat character to come through with little else standing in its way.
The nose offers sea spray, tarry rope, and an immense wave of smoke, joined by zesty lemon and lime. On the palate, that citrus brightness continues alongside black pepper and waxy dark chocolate, while a thread of graphite and tar runs beneath the sweetness. The finish is long and smoky, with a lingering coastal saltiness that anchors the whole dram.
