Bareksten Botanical Gin comes from Oss Craft Distillery, founded by Stig Bareksten near Bergen on Norway's southwestern coast. The gin draws its inspiration from Norwegian folklore, evoking the mighty forests where sunlight rarely penetrates and the mythical Hulder wood nymphs said to dwell among the roots of old oaks. Since its launch, Bareksten has built a strong international reputation, winning a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and expanding production significantly in the years that followed.

The gin is distilled from a base of Norwegian potatoes and built around twenty-six botanicals, roughly eighteen to nineteen of which are foraged locally around the distillery. Juniper, wild blueberries, lingonberries, rhubarb, elderflower, and mint sit alongside more traditional botanicals such as coriander, angelica root, and citrus peel. Production uses a single-shot method in a 600-liter copper still run slowly over nine hours, with citrus, rhubarb, and a handful of delicate flowers suspended in a vapor basket while the remaining botanicals undergo a full twenty-four-hour maceration, resulting in a spirit bottled at 46 percent alcohol by volume.

The nose is vibrant, opening with fresh pine intertwined with warm, spiced undertones. On the palate, dark forest character comes through from the local herbs, layered with the depth of Nordic berries and a fresh floral lift from chamomile and elderflower. The overall effect is dense, wild, and dramatic, tasting distinctly of the Norwegian landscape that inspired it.
