2024 Barkan - Sauvignon Blanc Classic (750ml)
Barkan traces its history back to the close of the nineteenth century, though its modern chapter began in 2000 with a state-of-the-art winery built at Hulda kibbutz on the Judean plain. From the outset, the focus has been on grape quality above all else, with top varieties sourced from around the world and planted across more than ten square kilometers of vineyards. That scale has made Barkan one of Israel's largest wine producers, with the Classic series serving as its most widely available and approachable tier.
The grapes for this bottling come from the Tel-Tzapit Vineyard in the Judean Plains, an area whose growing conditions suit Sauvignon Blanc's need for a long, even ripening period. The wine is made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc, without blending in other varieties, which lets the vineyard's character come through clearly in the glass. Alcohol sits at a modest twelve percent, keeping the wine light and refreshing.
Pale and light in color, this Sauvignon Blanc offers aromas of passion fruit and green apple with a pleasant herbal edge underneath. The palate is crisp and well balanced, finishing clean and dry. It works particularly well with lean white fish such as flounder or bass, and also suits fresh goat cheese or a plate of simple vegetable appetizers.
