Bhakta Distilled 1973 Armagnac Brandy 750ml

BHAKTA Spirits was founded by Raj Peter Bhakta, who previously built and later sold the whiskey brand WhistlePig. After stepping away from that business, Bhakta traveled to France and discovered a cellar at Château Ryst-Dupeyron in Condom holding Armagnacs distilled as far back as 1868. He acquired the estate, now known as Château BHAKTA, and built a company around releasing single vintage Armagnacs, each bottling capturing the character of one specific harvest year rather than a blend across multiple vintages.

This particular release comes from the 1973 harvest in the Bas Armagnac region, distilled in traditional wood fired alembic stills before beginning a fifty year rest in French oak under the direction of longtime cellarmaster Bernard, who has tended the château's stocks for decades. Because each BHAKTA vintage draws entirely from a single year's distillate, the resulting spirit reflects the particular growing conditions and distilling choices of that harvest, offering a far narrower window into Armagnac's character than a typical multi-vintage blend.

The nose opens with baked apple, old books, cinnamon, and leather, moving into nutmeg and macerated raisin on the palate. Layers of dried fruit, candied orange peel, and toasted almond build alongside dark chocolate and warming spice, closing on a long, complex finish shaped by half a century in wood.
