Broken Shed Whey Vodka 750ml

Broken Shed began in a rustic shed on the shores of Lake Wanaka, New Zealand, where two friends who had spent a year testing water from ten different sources decided to try their hand at making vodka from scratch. What started as an experiment among friends launched in 2010 and has since grown into one of the fastest-growing vodkas in the United States, still handcrafted in Wanaka using the same natural, renewable resources that inspired its founders from the start.

This vodka is built from just three ingredients, two of them water. Ancient, mineral-rich aquifer water from New Zealand's South Island is blended with filtered spring water from the North Island, then combined with a spirit distilled from whey, a natural byproduct of the country's dairy industry. Using whey means less farmland is needed for conventional bases like grain, and because the whey starts out in liquid form, no additional water is required during distillation. The spirit is distilled three times, with no additives, sweeteners, or GMOs involved at any stage.

The nose opens with a dominant hit of vanilla that settles into subtle citrus and notes of freshly cut grass. On the palate, butterscotch and vanilla give way to a peppery, bittersweet finish, with a smooth, warm lingering note on the tongue. Its rounded, additive-free character makes it a natural fit for simple cocktails like an espresso martini, or for sipping neat with a citrus garnish.
