Cardenal Mendoza Spanish Brandy 750ml

Cardenal Mendoza comes from Bodegas Sánchez Romate Hermanos, founded in Jerez de la Frontera in 1781 by Juan Sánchez de la Torre and still owned by the same family today. In 1887, the fourth generation created an exclusive brandy for the family's own table, and the result proved popular enough to bring to market under the name Cardenal Mendoza, honoring Pedro González de Mendoza, the fifteenth century cardinal who helped unify Spain and championed Columbus's voyage to the Americas.

This is a Brandy de Jerez in the Solera Gran Reserva category, distilled from holandas, the fine spirit produced slowly in copper alquitara stills. Aging takes place across one of the largest solera systems in Jerez, a network of casks previously seasoned with Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry, blending younger and older brandy through the traditional criaderas method for an average of fifteen years, well beyond the three year minimum required for the designation.

The brandy pours a deep mahogany with copper glints and offers a round, elegant character with raisin, plum, and toasted nut notes built over the sherry-soaked oak. The finish is long, warm, and balanced, with a vinous depth that sets it apart from grape brandies aged without sherry cask influence.
