Casa Dragones was founded in 2009 by Bertha González Nieves, the first certified Maestra Tequilera, alongside Robert W. Pittman, co-creator of MTV. Based in San Miguel de Allende, the brand takes its name from the Dragones, an elite cavalry that fought for Mexican independence, and remains owned by its founders to this day. Casa Dragones built its reputation on small-batch, artisanal production, with each bottle engraved using the traditional pepita technique and its four expressions positioned firmly in the ultra-premium sipping category.

This Añejo, known as the Barrel Blend, is produced under NOM 1489 in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, from 100% Blue Weber agave aged seven to ten years before harvest. Rather than aging in a single barrel type, González Nieves matures two separate añejos, one in new French oak and one in new American oak, each chosen for the distinct character it lends the spirit. After maturation, the two are carefully blended together, a technique meant to draw out complexity beyond what either barrel could achieve alone.

The color runs light caramel with bright hues and long legs. The nose opens with fresh florals and pear, joined by fig and almond, while the palate turns rich and layered with macadamia, nutmeg, and blackberry. The finish is long and round, closing on notes of cacao and a touch of spicy black pepper. It's best appreciated neat or over a single large ice cube, served in a wide-mouthed glass that allows its aromatics to fully develop.
